I originally wanted this to go up with last week's page, but I didn't get to it in time. This week will have to do.
So, scene change, and some new action coming. Well, sorta action. You all get to see the Patson's Hands for the first time. Patson's Hands are a small lizard-like creature created by a man named Patson. I'll go more into them in the weeks ahead, but I don't want to spoil the story for y'all.
I also should explain more about the spaceship, and other spaceships in general. In 7300 all vehicles are fully sentient and at least partly biological. They aren't made by people, they reproduce. Scientists, somewhere around the year 4000 or so (read the timeline for exact dates. I wrote that so I wouldn't have to remember.), were able to create species of plants and animals to their specifiaction. One of the most major of these species are the Craft, and are divided into four sub-species: land, air, sea, and space.
You don't buy a car, you befriend them. That was the basic idea. If you need to ride to work, you go out to the local group of Craft and ask for a ride, or meet one that goes where you're going and car-pool. Ara and the gang work for the Stellar Drifter, and in return they get a place to live and jobs.
My idea for space-born Craft was that they are a combination of a snail, a sea-turtle, and the spaceship from 2001. All the parts of the Drifter you've seen so far are just the shell. The actual, living creature that is the Drifter is the circular part on the side, which is it's eye and probably the best telescope mankind ever makes. The gang never go into the Drifter's actual body and it would take surgery of some form to do so. I don't know (yet) how it eats, or anything else like that. I'll figure it out.
I originally wanted to have the Drifter latch onto small comets and asteroids and tow them along as fuel as they fly around. The problems were that I couldn't get a good drawing of it, and I realized that after long enough the food would run out. There may be millions of rocks and junk in the solar system but it wouldn't refresh as fast as it would get used, no matter how I wrote it.
Segway (sp?) back to the comic. I needed a disaster of some form to go on at this point in the story, but I realized almost any disaster on board a moving Craft would be catastrophically fatal. That's going to be a big hurdle to any action I may or may not be writing. I hope this is an interesting one. We'll see.
I really need to get a glossary of some form for all this stuff up on this website ASAP. Well, we will see what Cristmas can bring.
